RE/MAX International has announced its participation as a major co-sponsor of the Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race For The Cure events in the United States. The announcement was made by RE/MAX senior vice president, Margaret Kelly during the Feb. 25th opening session of the 2002 RE/MAX International Convention in Orlando.

The Komen Race for the CureŽ Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. At all races, participants are invited to honor those who have battled breast cancer. “In Memory of” and “In Celebration of” back signs are available for participants and are part of what makes the Komen Race for the CureŽ Series so unique. These signs will be available courtesy of RE/MAX and Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity as co-sponsors of the Komen Foundation’s Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program. In addition, the Komen Foundation was the first, and continues today, to be dedicated to helping women speak out about breast cancer. Survivors who wish to be recognized on Race Day receive a pink cap and pink T-shirt, also courtesy of RE/MAX and Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Kelly explained, “In addition to the initial two-year co-sponsor commitment to Komen and all the local RE/MAX members who will volunteer at local Survivor Recognition Program venues, we have created a section on www.remax.com Web site called ‘Early Detection Reminder’ that allows anyone to set up both a monthly Email reminder for a self-exam and an annual reminder for a mammogram. Most of us have a family member or know a co-worker or a close friend that has experienced the heartbreak breast cancer can bring. Early discovery is critical for all women. RE/MAX is privileged to participate in a pro-active effort to assist in early detection and to recognize those who have survived this terrible disease.”

The Komen Race for the CureŽ Series is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. In 2002, Races are scheduled in more than 100 U.S cities and three foreign countries with over 1.4 million participants expected.
